Six monitoring sites have been established across the Mallee region to demonstrate various aspects of sustainable mixed farming practices.

The sites include:
� Victoria (x2): these sites aim to increase livestock profitability whilst not impacting on cropping (main enterprise) returns;
� New South Wales (x2): one site aims to introduce new rotation research from a trial size into paddock size; while the other aims to demonstrate good lucerne establishment technology.
� South Australia (x2): one site aims to explore the benefits of phase cropping techniques, where some land is used for intensive cropping while other paddocks are used for extended periods of pasture. The other site aims to explore the value of increasing pasture production through higher inputs.
