Farming Systems - Combining Livestock with Existing Cropping Enterprises to Contribute to Increased Profitability of Farm Business and Enhancement of the Social and Natural Resources

Eyre Peninsula, SA

Project contact: Alison Frischke, phone (08) 8680 6223, email frischke.alison@saugov.gov.au

This project is focused on the provision of a forum for information exchange, education and research for the region.

A group consisting of a skilled facilitator and a technical representative from the profitability, environmental and social aspects of the project will progressively work with the Eyre Peninsula farmer groups to discuss project information and results and how these can be considered and potentially woven into individual farming systems.

pecific research questions will be addressed via a mix of broad scale demonstration activities (with full engagement of farmer groups) and intensive smaller scale research activities. Key outcomes will be introduced subsequently into demonstrations or extension products.

Activities have been grouped into two major areas - pasture options and grazing management, and livestock health and management issues.

The project is supported by the Agricultural Bureau and farm improvement/no-till groups, SARDI, Rural Solutions SA, Eyre Peninsula Farming Systems Project, local agricultural consultants, Eyre Peninsula Sustainable Agriculture and CSIRO.
