Water use by annual and perennial pastures will be compared on eight demonstration farms.

Water use data will be fed into a number of models to estimate the impact of perennial pastures on groundwater rise, salinity and farmer profitability.

Soil erosion will also be measured on demonstration farms, validated by satellite imagery. A series of case studies will be produced for distribution to share results and best practice advice with farmers.
