The Eyre Peninsula region is located on the eastern edge of the Great Australian Bight, South Australia and covers 55,000 sq km. The population is 33,000.
There are 1,351 farms in the Eyre Peninsula region and agriculture comprises 85% of the region's economic activity, valued at $450m annually. This mainly consists of winter crops of wheat and barley, wool and livestock. Aquaculture is now the fastest-growing enterprise in the region.
The soils in this region range from grey calcareous sands up to pH10 to alkaline reddish-brown sandy loam and neutral calcareous sands to brown acidic clay.
