Region Snapshot
The Border Rivers Region is located on the New South Wales/Queensland border with an area of 50,000 sq km and a population of 104,000 people.
There are 1,882 farms in the region, an increase of nearly 20% since 1990. Grains
represent 42% of farm income, grazing 38% and off-farm income 20%.
Significant erosion, dryland salinity and weed invasion management are issues for mixed farmers in this region, with declining fertility and water quality providing further challenges. About 39% of Border Rivers farmers direct drill into stubble.
