Border Rivers - Pastures field day attracts landholders
More than 40 landholders and agricultural advisors recently went to a Grain & Graze field day recently, near Weengallon, Queensland, to learn about pastures and salinity management. The field day, organised by the Queensland Murray-Darling Committee (QMDC) and the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F) was held at Paul Southerns property, 'Lyolia'.

QMDC's Kathryn Taylor said that the day was well-attended, and it had aimed to inform landholders of pasture species selection and establishment, and salinity management options. "The feedback I received from the landholders suggested that they found the day's topics really relevant to their own operations," said Ms Taylor. "I hope that they took away some good messages about pasture selection from the day."

Presenters at the field day included representatives from QMDC, DPI&F, the Department of Natural Resources and Water, Griffiths Agriculture, and local landholders. Presentations covered topics such as the importance of matching pasture selection to soil type and climate, how the use of legumes can ensure long-term productivity, and a variety of on-farm experiences.
