Southern Qld Grazier Trials Legume Burgundy Bean

ABC Rural Radio Report, Southern Queensland

New trials in grazing country near Inglewood have shown potential with the use of a legume called Burgundy Bean. Grazier Linden Charles planted 20 acres on his property hoping to increase profitability and better manage the land in a cropping scenario.

The trial was a Grain and Graze project and the legume is said to show high palatability and suitability to a wide range of soil types. It is also easy to establish because of its seed size which is halfway between grass seed and dolichos lablab.

Mr Charles says it is the first time he has ever trialed it, "I certainly think in the grazing areas there is potential for it to rejuvenate your soils etcetera and provide a break crop" he said.
