13 March 2007
WHAT: The Grain & Graze Mallee project, operated by Mallee Sustainable Farming Inc, is hosting a forum in Karoonda. Participating farmers will be able to learn from each other's knowledge and experiences about making their farming businesses more resilient and easier to manage.
The forum will highlight some of the benefits of integrating cropping and livestock enterprises on mixed farms, and provide an opportunity for participants to consider these advantages when making decisions.
The forum aims to expand on the existing knowledge of how to best match livestock production with crop production for maximum farm profitability and sustainability in the Mallee region.
Social researcher and expert in the field of decision making in mixed farming enterprises, Nigel McGuckian, RM Consulting Group, Bendigo, will be at the forum to drive discussion among attending farmers. Nigel has over 20 years of experience working with farmers, and understands many of the current issues and challenges they face.
Grain & Graze is a collaborative partnership between Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and Land & Water Australia (LWA), aiming to help mixed farmers increase their profitability and simultaneously better manage natural resources.
